Ciska Ciska is the project of Ciska Dhaenens (25) from Ghent, Belgium, a singer-songwriter with the ability to write powerfully fragile and heavenly songs. With gentle guitar and subtle piano, hushed drumming and a golden voice, Dhaenens draws the listener into her emotional world, where she’s not afraid to show her vulnerable side. The music is often intimate, melancholic and dreamy, occasionally building up or a guitar breaking out. Ciska Ciska’s enticing blend of indie and Americana visits places where the shadows of personal idols like Julia Jacklin, Adrianne Lenker (Big Thief) and Aldous Harding roam.

Backed by a fantastic band, she’s already opened for Jamie Cullum at the beautiful Queen Elisabeth Hall, while also playing several support shows for local indie heroes BLUAI and Ivy Falls.

As debut single ‘Biotope’ is effortlessly capturing hearts, a debut album is in the works. “The release of that album will mark the closure of a life chapter filled with doubts and fears. I finally have the courage to put myself and my vulnerability on a pedestal, and that is also what the album will represent. For me it feels like one big coming of age story.”
