Dressed Like Boys returns with new single ‘And Then I Woke Up’ — title track from the upcoming album, out February 2027

Less than two years ago, Dressed Like Boys was a name one had to look up. How quickly things change... After a rollercoaster year in which Belgian singer-songwriter Jelle Denturck's project won over pretty much everyone's hearts and electrified stages all over Europe, the countdown to DLB’s sophomore album has begun. 

As a first taste of the upcoming new album (early 2027), Dressed Like Boys unveils title track ‘And Then I Woke Up’ a fragile and majestic piano ballad, and live favourite. Channelling Anohni's grandeur and the theatrical ache of Bowie's Life On Mars?, this is indie art pop with goosebump power, while frontman Jelle Denturck sings about spiritual awakening and opening your eyes to yourself and to the world around you.: LGBTQIA+ rights, climate collapse, genocide, the manosphere, … 

While writing the album, Jelle spent a lot of time reading about Buddhism and Taoism, and these ideas gradually found their way into the songs. ‘And Then I Woke Up’ is about learning to see yourself, and the world around you, differently.
Jelle: “Buddha literally means ‘the awakened one’. That idea became the starting point for this song. I had been wandering through life as an ego, an adult child, caught up in desires, worries and self-pity. And then I woke up.”

After a debut album that swept Europe's finest festival stages (Rock Werchter, Sziget, Haldern, Best Kept Secret, Pukkelpop, ESNS, TGE, Reeperbahn, MaMA ...), Dressed Like Boys cement themselves as one of indie’s brightest new names.
